First, let me preface this by saying it is not to make-fun or humiliate, but to illustrate. On the way to the 4th of July party, we stopped at a busy gas station to meet another family. This fellow was asleep there, in the shade. As you can see, he was next to a very busy truck-route where 2 major highways come together at a traffic circle. It was loud and smelly and he snoozed away.

This a common scene here and the interesting thing is what DOES NOT happen (as compared to USA): no one calls the police, no ambulances or paramedics arrive, no one bothers him, no one gets arrested, Child and Family services are not contacted, the news reporters do not show up because it is not a "breaking story." He is not deemed "homeless, vagrant or a menace to society." He is simply a man who decided to take a nap in the shade on a hot summer day in the cool grass at a gas station because that is where he happened to be. He will wake up and go home. A big social commentary... I don't know! Posted by Picasa
