It's Saturday morning and the sun is shining and relatively warm in the city. "They" (whoever "they" are....) keep saying "winter is coming!" So far, it hasn't really reared it's ugly head here. Maybe it's around the corner.
Well, we got our kitchen this week ....YEAH! The table, chairs and counter and cabinets. Remember, this place was EMPTY when we arrived. As I type, the landlord and the plumber (proprietorul si instalatorul) are in the kitchen making the water connect to everything. We'll see..... a funny side note. Only here would the plumber arrive wearing his bedroom slippers. He lives in our block, so he just strolled over.
Lisa and I took our huge rug out back this morning and "beat it," like Michael Jackson. It is an ancient and time-honored custom here. You can continuously hear the sounds of the rug beaters if your windows are open. Our living room window is open now and there's a guy beating right now. It is a true sound of Romanian life.
The "rarity" of the moment stems from the girls having spent the night at a friend's house. There is a birthday party this afternoon there and then I'll drive up and get them. Lisa watched marathon DVD's of "Grey's Anatomy" last night ...because she could. Thanks Karla!! Then we both slept late. Rarities indeed.
The getting up at 6:20 each weekday morning is an adjustment for me. In Timisoara, I was busy in afternoons, nights and weekends... so this is switch back to the old way of doing things. I love the school and it fits like a glove, as Lisa says. I spend a lot of my time, right now, contacting universities in the USA and posting our job/teacher needs on their sites for prospective teachers. It's tedious, but good. Also, I'm teaching a class to the high school seniors (who all happen to be guys this year) every afternoon called "Life 101." I took over after Christmas. We are doing a weekly Precept Bible Study on King David, a lot of "transitions" work to prepare for college and military and work next year. I really enjoy it.
Well, I sense the need to go check out the progress in the kitchen.... by the way, the beating continues down below.
