THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE SAGA......

Blogging away .....my summer has been much busier than I expected. The odyssey of Sofia's birth certificate and passport is almost (dare I say it) complete. This afternoon I make my 3rd trip to the northern edge of town to the Vital Records office to collect her Romanian birth certificate. This alone is a 4 hour excursion to get there, wait in the oppressive heat inside and then return home. Thursday (because Wednesday is 4th of July the Embassy will be closed) I go to the Embassy and give it to them to complete her file. Hopefully, in a few weeks, she'll have a passport and be registered as an American citizen.

Speaking of the 4th, most of our American friends are in the US, so no big blowout here. Needless to say, July 4th is just another day in paradise to the average Romanian. Their July 4th is December 1st. However, the country has been conquered and subsequently freed so many times, I'm not sure anyone knows which freedom to celebrate any more.

Teacher's Camp is less than 2 weeks away. Mikie and I are attending and she's already making lists in her head of what she'll need. She's a traveler and can't wait to get on the train and GO! A true chip off this old block. It will be cooler there and we're staying at a hotel, so maybe not so rustic. I'm sure the blog will be filled with post-camp paraphernalia.

I need to replace my son's birth certificate.
How long did it take you to complete the process.
In 1991 I had it in less than a week. Any chance you know someone who might help?
The embassy says 3 months. I'm hoping for a few weeks.
