The US is determined to help Romania accomplish all criteria to enter the visa waiver program, Deputy State Secretary Richard C. Barth announced. In an official visit to Bucharest, the American official met his Romanian counterpart, Interior minister Cristian David to discuss Romania's progress so far, a press release of the US Embassy in Bucharest informs.
Barth said that other states in the region which already joined the visa waiver program had to comply with the same standards as Romania should. The American official added that both Romanian President Traian Basescu and PM Tariceanu discussed the issue with American President George W. Bush during the NATO Summit in Bucharest earlier this month.
US Ambassador to Bucharest, Nicholas Taubman said that the US diplomatic mission was currently improving the visa process in order to simplify it and make it more efficient. Taubman declared that they will push for a public information campaign to inform citizens of all needed requirements.
Taubman said that visa rejections decreased since Romania is now a EU member and its economy develops rapidly. He added that Romanians traveling to the US usually comply with all conditions imposed.
