ROMANIA DAY

Let's see ...tomorrow is a national holiday in Romania (Dec. 1) that celebrates workers. Best I can understand it, it was originally a communist holiday to "celebrate the working people," but of course they had to work very hard to prepare for it and were usually exhausted and tired before it arrived. So much for celebrating, huh?? Most businesses, schools, government offices, banks, etc. will be closed. Maybe it is a little like 4th of July, but less patriotic. Sometimes there are parades, but they don't have the festive connotation here that we Americans usually associate with them. In the old days, "parade" meant communist propoganda, so maybe some people are a little skeptical.

I had language class today ....this is where I learned all of the facts I just told about ...we had the conversation in Romanian also ...impressed?? "Vorbesc mai mult romaneste decat an tecuta." It is easier to read every day ....beginning to get the big picture orally and dog hard to speak! Cosmin, a 12th grader we know, was here for a few hours last night. He always corrects my grammar and I try to tell him that my grammar in English is horrible also. Anyway, he speaks English fluently and began learning it at age 3. So, at age 42, I am definitely handicapped.

There is a slight rain outside ...where is my snow?? It was here last week and now the weather is warmer. Looking for the white stuff. I'll keep you updated.
