THE INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL, built in 1970 by a group of Romanian architects, was called an "oasis of democracy" under the regime. It was basically the only "western" enterprise in the entire country. Today, it is still the city's premier hotel in a prime location. For what it's worth, the US Embassy is just behind the tower, to the right. Posted by Picasa
